Any person who wishes to become a volunteer Angel and has previously been in treatment must have 1 year of sobriety. However, it is not necessary that you have previously been in treatment. Anyone can apply. There are no educational or professional licensing requirements to become an Angel. Angels must apply, take the Angel training, and then pass a background check.
No, Angels must never transport a client. Transportation to facilities will be arranged by Hope Not Handcuffs staff.
Angels are provided with a Hope Not Handcuffs shirt. Upon arriving at a police department, they should identify themselves and indicate that they are a volunteer Angel called to assist.
The decision to prosecute criminal cases is solely at the discretion of the District Attorney’s Office. While seeking treatment for a drug or alcohol addiction may play a role in determining how or if a case will be adjudicated, there are no absolutes.
